Sewing 101 - Make a Pillowcase

Saturday, 6/19, 2-4pm

$45, includes BNS kit, ages 16+.

No experience required.

Get sewing in this 2-hour class! We’ve combined the anatomy of a sewing machine with sewing a pillowcase. Learn the proper names of the parts, what they do, how to thread the machine, and sew!

*Includes: fabric, thread, and use of our machine...or you may bring your own machine if you prefer.

Sewing 102 - Straight Market Bag

Saturdays, 5/29 and 6/5 from 11:30am-1:30pm

Saturdays, 6/26 and 7/3 from 2-4pm

$75 per student, includes Portobello-pixie’s Straight Market Bag pattern, ages 16+.

Skills: Adventurous seamster!

You are ready to make a garment! Good for you! PortobelloPixie's Straight Market Bag is a great pattern to learn: pattern layout, sewing symbols, and pattern reading.

*Additional items not included in the class price: washed, dried, and ironed fabric, muslin, and matching thread. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Barcelona Skirt

Thursdays, 7/22 and 7/29 from 5:30-8pm

$95 per student, includes Amy Butler Barcelona Skirt pattern, ages 16+.

Beginner/intermediate seamster.

Are you ready to make a garment? Great! Skirts are a really easy way to start and the Barcelona skirt is a great pattern for learning pattern layout, sewing symbols, and pattern reading. We will be making the A-line (non-layered) skirt.

*Additional items not included in the class price: Please consult pattern for sizing and amount of washed, dried and ironed fabric you will need to bring. You will also need thread, a zipper, and if you would like to trace your pattern so you can make multiple sizes, then bring tracing paper and a marker. You may use oursewing machine or bring your own.

Sencha Blouse: A Simple Sophisticated Blouse
Saturdays, 8/28 and 9/4 from 11am-2pm $80 per student, includes Colette Sencha Blouse pattern, ages 16+. Advanced beginner/intermediate seamster You’ll make a simple versatile blouse from the Colette Sencha blouse pattern (version 1 or 2). This top has a loose but gently fitted waist great for tucking in or leaving out. Learn to read a pattern,size your blouse, cut out your fabric, quick pleats, facings, seam finishings, and a hand-sewn hem. Choose the easiest, version 1, with back snaps, or version 2 with additional tucks and buttons up the back. A terrific project for the new sewer that wants a little challenge and an adorable blouse.

*Additional items not included in the class price: 1 7/8 yards of washed, dried, and ironed light to midweight fabric (such as cotton, rayon, silk), ½ yard light-weight fusible interfacing, matching allpurpose thread, and five ¾” buttons or ½” snaps. Before class, cut out the tissue pattern. You may use our sewing machine. Please bring your own sewing machine (and manual) with buttonhole-making capabilities if you want to make version 2.

*Additional items not included in the class price: 1/2 yd oil cloth, 1/2 yd coordinating cotton fabric, 1/8 yd interfacing. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Zippers are Easy! Learn to Love Them

Thursday, 6/17 from 5-8pm

$45, ages 16+.

Beginning to intermediate sewing skills.

Zippers add loads of versatility to your sewing repertoire, so let us show you the basics of zipper installation. We'll make a cute lined pouch with an exposed zipper and a stylish throw pillow cover with a lapped zipper closure in the back.

*Additional items not included in the class price: Pillow cover requires 1/2 yard of washed, dried, and ironed fabric, matching thread, matching 14" zipper, and 16" square pillow insert (pillow insert does not need to be brought to class). Zipper pouch requires 1/4 yard each of two different fabrics (washed, dried, and ironed), matching thread, and matching 7" zipper. Use our sewing machine or bring your own. A zipper foot for your sewing machine is required.

Mendocino Sundress: Soak up some Sun!

Saturday, 7/17 from 11am-4pm

$75 per student, includes free pattern, ages 16+.

Advanced beginner and intermediate sewing skills.

We'll be making Heather Ross's great little sundress that she says, "fits (and looks great on) everyone"! This cute pattern combines a few easy steps and shirring with elastic thread to create a dress you'll wear all summer long.

*Additional items not included in the class price: 2 1/2 yards of washed, dried, and ironed lightweight cotton fabric, coordinating thread, and one spool of elastic sewing thread. You may also choose ribbon, bias tape, or spaghetti straps instead of fabric straps. Use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Hand Applique 101: Embellish Anything

Thursday, 7/8 or 8/26 from 5:30-7:30pm

$30 per student, includes pattern, ages 16+.

Advanced beginner seamster

Discover the secrets of easy hand applique for embellishing clothing, accessories, and quilting projects. You’ll learn and practice the skills of needle turn, freezer paper, and reverse applique methods. And what to do with your new skills? We have endless project ideas to keep you excited about applique.

*Additional items not included in the class price: size 10 or 11 applique hand sewing needles, ½ yard of prewashed solid color cotton fabric, optional small vinyl plastic sheets.

Quilting 101: Learn Quilting Basics
Sundays, 8/22 and 8/29 from 1:30-4pm $85 per student, includes pattern, ages 16+. Advanced beginner (must know how to use a sewing machine) or intermediate seamster. One of the easiest ways to learn the basics of quilting is to make quilted placemats. These “mini quilts” are fun and easy to make, and you’ll learn loads of basic quilting techniques while you assemble two placemats for your home. We’ll explore rotary cutting and piecing, sandwiching and basting your “quilt,” machine quilting with a walking foot, and binding techniques.
Big Bow Cardigan: Another Great Repurposing Project!
Thursday 9/9 from 5:30-8pm $35 per student, ages 16+. Advanced beginners to intermediate sewing skills. Refashion a no longer worn crew or v-neck sweater into a fabulous shawl collar cardigan! A fun project that mixes woven fabric with a knit sweater.

*Additional items not included in the class price: Please bring to class a crew or v-neck sweater and ¾ yd coordinating mid-weight cotton fabric (needs to be washed, dried and pressed) and coordinating thread. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Felt Baby Booties
Thursday 9/16 from 5:30-7:30pm $40 per student, includes BNS kit, age 12+ Adventurous beginner A quick sewing project with stunning results. You will make one pair of these cute booties, available in 3 sizes (0-3m, 3-6m, or 6-9m). Everything is included in the price of this class! You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.
Napkins 3 Ways: Wonderful Hostess Gift or Picnic Accoutrement
Thursday 7/15 from 5:30-8pm $35 per student, ages 12+. Adventurous beginner. Learn three different ways to make napkins. Great for the eco-conscious, while adding your own personal flair to your table. Perfect to make for a gift!

*Additional items not included in the class price: 1 yard each of two different washed, dried, and ironed fabric, 4” square of thin cardboard (likea cereal box) and matching thread. If you have rotary cutting supplies (cutter, mat, and ruler) please bring them. If you do not have these you can use ours. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Reusable Lunch Bag: Make a statement while being green!
Thursday, 8/19 from 5:30-7:30pm $30 per student, ages 16+. Adventurous beginners. Great for back to school or for work. Save the planet and cut down on lunch expenses by bringing your own in a cute handmade reusable lunch bag!

*Additional items not included in the class price: ⅜ yard of two different oil cloth fabrics, matching thread, binder clips, or paper clips and 6” of ¾” sew-in velcro. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Youth Class: Learn to Sew and Complete a Mini Room Makerover
Tuesday-Thursday, June 22-24, from 1-4pm $135 per student, ages 8+. No experience required. Learn how to sew AND give your room the personal touch with a mini make-over. You'll design and create: a pillowcase for a standard bed pillow, a decorative border for your top sheet and a throw pillow with a secret compartment. You will learn the parts of a sewing machine, threading a sewing machine, winding a bobbin, sewing straight lines and gathering fabric. Prewash, dry and iron all fabric and top sheet before class. Bring all materials to class in a bag with your name on it.

*Additional items not included in the class price: 3 yards cotton fabric, 1/2 yard coordinating accent cotton fabric, 6 yards of 1/2" wide double fold bias tape, top sheet that is the right size for your bed, 16" square pillow form and coordinating thread. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Youth Intermediate Class: Skirts, Skirts, and More Skirts!
Tuesday - Friday July 20-23 from 1-4pm $135 per student, ages 8+ Adventurous beginner, must have basic sewing skills (either have taken first Youth class or Sewing 101.) Ready to sew yourself a new summer wardrobe? Then this is the class for you. You’ll make a threesome of cool skirts and in the process learn how to gather fabric, sew with bias tape, embellish a garment with trim, and make your own skirt pattern. Prewash, dry, and iron all fabric before class. Bring all materials to class in a bag with your name on it.

*Additional items not included in the class price: All fabric and notions. A materials list will be provided to you when you sign up. You may use our sewing machine or bring your own.

Please Note:
  • There is a minimum of two students in all classes.
  • In order to guarantee your placement in a class full payment is required upon registration.
  • All student cancellations must be received no later than 48 hours before your class meets and you will be placed in the next available session or given a refund in the form of a store gift card. 
  • In the case of a last-minute cancellation or a no-show we will not issue a refund of any sort.  
  • We reserve the right to cancel a class in the event of instructor illness, low enrollment, and other emergency situations, issuing you a refund in the form of a store gift card or rescheduling the class.
